Destiny
2012 - 2025
“The pain I feel now is the happiness I had before. That's the deal.”
C.S. Lewis
I write this to honor you Destiny, because you deserve to be honored.
Destiny you came to me in 2013. I was only supposed to have you temporarily until a home could be found for you. When I was told you would be taken to the pound I could not bear that and you became part of my family along with our other three dogs Boomer, Bo Derek and Nala.
I have always loved you Destiny and always tried my best to take care of you. You were such a sweet and loving dog. I remember watching you lay on top of Bo Derek our great dane when she was asleep and loved watching you play with Boomer and Nala.
I would say we had good relationship through the years, although we did hit a bit of rough spot and that was my fault not yours. But our relationship grew deeper as the years went on.
Something really began to change in the last 6 years. Somehow a much deeper and meaningful bond began to grow, I can’t explain it but it did. It seemed like it was the year I saved you and Boomer from heart worms using a natural alternative. You both fully recovered. I think we really grew closer together after that. I loved the way you would come up to me and put you head under my hand and push it up telling me to pet you. And the way you would lick my face if I put it close to yours. I think my favorite thing you did was when you were lying down and I reached down to pet you, you would raise your paw and put it over my hand as if locking it down to you. You had such a unique and loving personality. Your eyes said it all, unconditional love for me. I think I belonged to you, more than you belonged to me.
Destiny you were more than just a part of my life, you were woven into the fabric of my being. I don’t think I fully understood just how much love I was pulling from you. But now that you are not on this earth the intense and unbearable pain I’m feeling is only equal to the love I have for you. You gave to me so much love, happiness and joy. Just being with you made me happy.
The last year and half of your life I fought with you against the Degenerative Myelopathy that was slowly overtaking you. I regret that I didn’t get to take you on that hike I wanted to or load you in the car and take you for a drive with the window down. I know you would have loved that! But the simplest thing that I will miss and I wish I would have done more of is just sit next to you in contentment.
But my deepest regret is not understanding the look that you gave me the last night you were here like you were trying to tell something was wrong. I never got to hug you and tell you goodbye that last night and that pain will live with me until I see you again.
The only peace I have is that I know right now you are in eternity, complete whole and healed and running and playing with Bo Derek and Boomer and Kia. I know this because God breathed the breath of life in you as he did in all animals (Genesis 1:30). Also I have the assurance of Romans 8:18-23 which states that “all creation” will be redeemed. And that includes you.
I’ve got a while before I will catch up to you Destiny, but I will and we will then go on that hike that I wanted to take you on and be able to be with each other forever. If I caused you any pain, please forgive me and please know that I love you will all my heart Destiny and I will see you again.
“God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in heaven, and if it takes my dog being there, I believe he’ll be there” – Billy Graham
