Marley
2011 - 2025
Marley James Hohlstein, 14 years old passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his moms loving arms on Tuesday, June 3rd at 1038AM in Pardeeville, WI after battling a short illness with seizures and ultimately a suspected brain tumor. Marley was born April 9th, 2011 in rural Richland Center, WI. His mom purchased him as a gift to herself upon graduating high school for companionship. Marley earned himself several nicknames from those who loved him most; Marley Moo, Pooh, Pooh Bear, Fred, Freddy, Grandpa, Mar, Mar Mar and Marmadog. Marley and his mom had a divine and indescribable connection from the beginning; they were simply soulmates. Marley played hard to get with his dad early on thinking he was in competition for his mom but quickly they became inseparable best friends. Marley will forever hold a special place in his parents hearts as he had a profound impact on helping them through several challenging times in life.
Marley had a one of a kind personality. We always joked about his early retirement at the age of 2. Marley loved playing with the big dogs thinking he was one of them at doggy daycare and the dog park. Marley also enjoyed sunbathing, long walks to pee on everything in site, car rides to visit family, get pup cups from Starbucks or a cheeseburger from Culver’s. He also loved belly rubs, cuddling with his parents and his brother and with his favorite teddy bear. His favorite foods were all things beef; steak, roast, prime rib, and cheeseburgers. You always had to watch your back as he was known for being a little treat thief.
Marley wasn’t just a dog. Marley was so much more; a human spirit in a dog body with a huge personality and heart of gold. He was the best judge of character. Marley taught us what true and unconditional love was. He taught us that life is too short and nothing should ever be taken for granted. He taught us to find happiness in everyday and to always put a smile on your face no matter what.
If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. Marley was incredibly loved by so many people and will forever be missed by many. He is survived by his parents; Matt and Tara Hohlstein and his best friend and brother, Maxie in addition to his special Gigi and Uncle “Butt” Britten along with several other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his favorite Papa Tom and special Grandma “Doolittle” - Teri.
The family would like to thank Lodi Veterinary Care for all their great care over the years, especially in Marley’s final days. A special thank you also to the best groomers at Salon Fido and the best dog sitters/walkers; MacKenzie and Brooke.
In honor of Marley, we ask that you consider donating to Paws 4 A Cure to help pets and their families during difficult times.
A private celebration of Marley’s life will take place at a later date.
