"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." Hebrews 13:2
"Our best friend Toto, age 17 yrs, 11 months, (119 yrs in dog years), went to be with our Heavenly father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob on November 22, 2021. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Toto was a true blessing, a best friend to many and a huge bundle of joy in a tiny little package. For such a tiny little fella he had a big appetite, giant heart and was also very sassy and spicy! Toto was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri the first 12-13 years of his life by his first family, our brother Kevin, his spouse Latondra, our nieces Tasha and Kiki, and nephew little Kevin. He came to live with us here in Iowa during his retirement years. Toto loved, and was loved by his family very much! Toto loved spending time with both of his families where he enjoyed lots of love, friendship and tasty food! Everyone knew Toto. He was very popular and very well known. If you ever felt like you were being watched... just turn around and there was little Toto keeping a close eye on you!
Toto came to live with us after he raised our nieces and nephew and they went on to start their own families. Toto brought much joy and life into our home and hearts! He had the most beautiful big, brown eyes that were filled with love and told a story if you knew how to listen. Toto was a friend to many and you could frequently find him visiting the hospital for his Grandma, Mrs. Tobias and other family members that were ill, providing love, support, companionship, and comfort.
Whenever we came to town to visit my Mom when she was hospitalized... we never failed to run into Toto either just arriving himself, physically there in the room visiting my Mom, or leaving from a current visit. (This impressed me very much!!!!) This is the (Definition of True Dedication!) Toto was the best 'Therapy Dog!' He loved visiting the local nursing homes bringing joy to all of the residents.
Toto gave the best hugs and was always there to comfort anyone who needed comfort. He was very loyal, passionate, and a true friend. Toto’s favorite food was his Daddy's grilled Chicken and Wendy's French fries. He always made sure to tell his Daddy when it was time for his evening snack, not after, but while Daddy was eating his dinner! Toto loved car rides, snuggles on the couch and spending time with his family and his fur brothers and sisters. Barking with Miss Daisy Mae (our papillon), while she was playing with Trixie (our tortoise shell kitty) was one of Toto’s favorite pastimes! He would often be found with his Mommy carrying him everywhere he went, so she nicknamed him the 'Tote man!'
He always made your day brighter, and better with a snuggle, a lending ear and loving kindness of which many people could take lessons from. Toto did not have very much hair, so he had a very large wardrobe of clothes to make sure to keep him warm and snug. He loved his outfit changes, and his little big brother and best friend Krako the Chow Chow, who he adored and raised, would always assist to ensure it was just right!
Later in life, age and his health started to catch up with him. His big heart needed some extra tending and he was assisted by the cardiology staff at Iowa State University. There, they saved his life, gave him excellent care and extended the time we had with him. We are eternally grateful and cannot Thank Dr. Master's and the staff at ISU for what they did for our little buddy. We can not thank them enough for the extra time, compassion and care that they provided to us with our little fella.
What impressed us the most about Toto was... he was not your ordinary York-Shire Terrier (Yorkie). He was like having another person around. He would hold a conversation with you, would listen and then offer his input. Toto was loyal, trustworthy, loving, passionate, friendly and an absolute joy to be around!!!
There is an emptiness in our hearts and our house that cannot be replaced now that he's gone. We will never forget you dear Toto. Our loving best friend. You will be greatly missed and were loved by many!"
